The Prep in Progress entries are short summaries of my prep for my on-going campaign The Tales of the Hero Wars.
Overall, I felt that the FAE game went off reasonably well on Saturday. We do not normally play with quite that many Players, but it worked out fine in the end. The story followed the planned arc, as we finished up with the required betrothal that fits in with the backstory. It is a shame that I was not able to weave in the B-plot, as that could have proven more relevant to the on-going game. As ever, I will save it up for use again later, as I do so hate to waste good prep.
On the down side, however, I do feel that I did not really have a firm grip on the rules. It worked well enough, but it does take time and practice to run a ruleset smoothly. Curiously enough, part of the problem could well be that FAE is too similar to HeroQuest 2. While FAE is more structured in its approach, it is still a narrative game and thus I found it hard not to think in HeroQuest terms when determining outcomes, etc.
We may try another FAE Interlude again, but I will be relieved to return to HeroQuest for the next Session.
