Of a Mocking Tale
Evening, Quarryday, Hunt Week, Delve Season, 1017.
H09 remained at Arrluk’s ruined chamber to repair the wall. Adlartok, Arrluk and Umiaq returned to the Embassy through the deserted tunnels, easily avoiding the dwarven patrols. Sartokna was waiting for them at the Embassy, and took Adlartok for an interview. As the Cultural Attache questioned him about eating Embassy trollkin, Adlartok felt the bile rising in his throat.
However, instead of vomiting in his half-sister’s office, he only managed a dry retching. Even this was enough to attract the attention of Sartokna’s cleaning automaton. The clockwork machine began brushing Adlartok’s legs. Sartokna warmed Adlartok not to eat any more Embassy trollkin, so he tried to tempt her to eat one instead.
In the morning, the light from the Temple of Sol Invictus was back to normal. Umiaq had a fresh outfit of clothes delivered and everyone felt a lot better. All the Heroes gathered in the Embassy to decide what to do.
Adlartok and Helegion visited the Temple of Sol Invictus, along with his band of trollkin. The guard would not allow Adlartok to enter, but Helegion bluffed his way into the Temple. The elf could not meet the Prelate, who was very busy. A gnome acolyte told Helegion how the Temple light had increased as response to the explosion at the Iron Citadel.
The increased light was described as a standard response to an emergency in the city. However, the gnome explained how that would also inconvenience the trolls in the city. The acolyte repeated the rumour that the trolls were involved in the explosion at the Iron Citadel.
Meanwhile, Arrluk, Sartokna and Umiaq took the lightning sled to the small Collegium of Mages in the city. The Collegium was within a geode floating above the walls of Fabrarium, reached by walking over a bridge of hot coals. Umiaq invoked his destiny to activate a heat shield gadget on his wrist. This enlarged sufficiently to carry all three of them over the bridge of coals in style.
The trio visited the minotaur Arch Mage who agreed to translate the draconic script on the document Umiaq took from the Troll Minister’s office. The Arch Mage explained how the script is in a code or cypher, and will thus take time to translate.
When returning to the Embassy, Adlartok invoked his destiny to have a cloaked dwarf hand him a short message hinting at a secret involving the Prelate of the Temple of Sol Invictus.
