Writing Goals, 2nd April, 2017

Hi Everyone,

After last week, I am very relieved to post this on schedule. This weekend is a transitional one, as the boys finished school on Friday. I must prepare myself for more stress, and a change in focus onto the boys. I will miss my writing.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 3 hours – Primary Goal – Layout long pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 30 mins – Writer’s Yearbook final task
  • 1 hour – Writing Program

The last week of term is always difficult. In my mind I must meet the writing deadlines I set myself for the term. Meanwhile, the pace of school events intensifies and the boys grow ever more excited. Overall, I broadly met my writing targets, but I was far too busy at times. The layout progresses well, and the initial version could be completed over the holidays. This will leave me with the editing of the pdf, fixing links and sorting out the art. A late April release remains a possibility. I also began writing commentary for the webcomic pdf, so that should launch in May.

As usual, the creative writing side suffered. I need more focus, and a better schedule to accommodate that side of things. This area will decline over Easter. Elsewhere I ran another session of HeroQuest on Saturday, which did not suffer as much from my lack of sleep as I feared. There was definitely a lot of laughter this week.

Moving on, I now switch to my holiday schedule. Quiet writing time is very limited, so my goals are likewise reduced. Yet, these things are highly variable. I may yet find a quiet hour or two, so bonus writing time might happen. To limit my stress, however, I do not factor bonus time into my schedule. The holiday goals are as follows:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Layout long pdf
  • Bonus – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Writing Program
  • Bonus – Writer’s Yearbook final task

I will be happy enough if the boys remain mostly quiet, and we can play plenty of board games together. This is the calmest way through the Easter break, but may be too much to ask for.

See how I managed my week here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
