Writing Goals, 9th April, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Despite the stresses of the school holidays, I am posting this on schedule. This weekend marks the mid-point to the holiday, so it is down hill from here.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Layout long pdf
  • Bonus – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Writing Program
  • Bonus – Writer’s Yearbook final task

In the end, the first week of the school holiday was much better than I had feared. There were times when the boys were bored, and thus disruptive, but not too many. Overall, they kept themselves occupied fairly well. I also discovered how easy it is to progress with the pdf layout with them playing in the other room. I do not need total silence for that task, so I completed the art phase of the layout. Now I only have the fussy contents and internal links to sort, and then the pdf is ready for the final layout edits.

While the pdf progressed well, the writing program did not. This does need more focus, which does not happen with little boys playing in the house. I adjusted my new schedule to take this into account. Most days I kept the blog updated, but it was a bit patchy towards the end of the week.

Game prep ran smoothly too, although Friday was a rush due to a family outing. The numbers of Players declined during the session, which is not what usually happens. By ending up with only two Heroes, they achieved a lot. He increased speed nearly caught me out, but I improvised furiously and I think they both had fun.

Moving on to this week. The boys are on holiday for another week, so the schedule is another light one. The Writing Program is replaced with a couple of smaller tasks, which makes for a longer list. The varied schedule looks as follows:

  • 1.5 hours – Primary Goal – Layout long pdf
  • Bonus – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • Bonus – Tertiary Goal – Warlock’s Journal Entry
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Agent Sub
  • 30 mins – Writer’s Yearbook final task
  • Bonus – Writing Program

This gives me plenty of tasks to fit around the boys. Hopefully, each one will prove to be only short, and thus I can rattle through the list. I always like to cross items off the list.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
