Writing Goals, 23rd April, 2017

Hi Everyone,

The first week of term proved to be a busy one for me. This effect continued into today, where I had quite a struggle to coax the boys into completing their homework. After lots of sulking, my time is my own again for a little while. So, let me look back over last week.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – Layout long pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Tertiary Goal – PTA tasks
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1.5 hours – Editing FebShoMo first draft
  • Bonus – Writer’s Yearbook final task

The first week of term was a short one, so I only had four days of peace. I nominated it as a catch-up week, as I had plenty of chores to complete around the house. The painting in the new bathroom is complete, so I can cross that off the list. I also completed the layout of the long pdf, which should launch later this week.

Overall, I made good progress with my tasks. Another story was edited, and the webcomic compilation is slowly coming together. I am about halfway through writing the first draft. Layout for the comic may be tricky, so a release in May might not happen. Regardless, I will keep pushing, and as it floats to the top of my list, it may yet finish sooner.

Elsewhere, we had another brainstorming session in the Shadows of Ulubrae story arc. This was a DramaSystem session, where we created the relationships and goals for the major political factions in Ulubrae. A couple of new twists were added to the game in the process, and the Players definitely have a much better picture of the balance of power in the city. Thankfully, this required minimal prep.

Looking ahead, this is another full week of the boys at school. However, the next major household task looms. I need to clear Gerrard’s room, before we can decorate it. Thus, my writing schedule is curtailed a little, as I factor in two afternoons spent sorting his room. The new schedule is a step forward from last week, but still short of my top speed:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Fantasy Mook Traits pdf launch
  • 2 hours – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Write FebShoMo first draft
  • 1.5 hours – Building SF setting

As you can see, my tasks have changed a lot this week. This is always very satisfying, and if all goes to plan, then it will shift again next week. Incremental progress always motivates me to keep pushing.

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
