Writing Goals, 7th May, 2017

Hi Everyone,

We are back to the usual routine this weekend. This means an extended round of cajoling the boys to focus on their homework after breakfast. In between the chores, I still have time too post this update.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 3 hours – Primary Goal – Promote Top 40 Sites
  • 2 hours – Secondary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Tertiary Goal – Dice Photos
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 1 hour – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Write FebShoMo first draft
  • 1.5 hours – FebShoMo SF brainstorming

The schedule for last week was a little different, with a focus on promoting the blog via social media. This took longer than planned, but achieved my goals. By the end of the week my list of top 40 websites saw a lot of traffic. I know this will fade away again through the week, but it is encouraging to see an increased number of visitors to the blog.

As so much of my time was taken up with social media, other tasks suffered. I failed to work on the dice photography, and the brainstorming was limited. Yet, I also completed one first draft, and began a second. The current story is a longer one, so will probably roll over into next week.

Elsewhere, I ran our first full-session of Dungeon World yesterday. One Hero very nearly died, which is a rare event at our table. The rhythm of Dungeon World seems slower than HeroQuest, in part due to the more complex mechanics. Thus, we only worked through a couple of encounters. I will need to pick up the pace for the Dungeon World finale next session.

Moving onto this week, we have next weekend away, so the second half of my schedule looks very different. Holiday prep eats further into my routine, although it is possible I may achieve a lot of writing on the break. However, to control my stress levels, I am not piling on the pressure. Holiday writing will be bonus writing. The reduced schedule looks like this:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Advert banner for DriveThruRPG
  • Bonus – Tertiary Goal – Dice Photos
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Write FebShoMo first draft
  • 1.5 hours – Agent submission

As ever, the change is goals this week is a good sign of my progress. Editing for the webcomic compilation is almost complete, which means I should move on to the layout soon. It might even launch later this month if I keep pushing.

Wishing you a productive week
