Writing Goals, 14th May, 2017

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I were on a road trip this weekend, so I am only now writing this as we are back home. It is such a relief to have stopped travelling. I was only navigating, but that was stressful enough. I now need to catch up with everything I missed over the weekend.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Advert banner for DriveThruRPG
  • Bonus – Tertiary Goal – Dice Photos
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Write FebShoMo first draft
  • 1.5 hours – Agent submission

Last week was another mixed bag for me. On the positive side, the webcomic enjoyed a lot of progress with the layout. I achieved double my target hours here, finally creating a layout for the comic strip pages I liked. This felt like good progress with my layout software, along with broadening my skills as a graphic artist. My previous pdf saw development with its layout, and the webcomic pdf is pushing this forward another step.

On a personal level, the successful navigation for the road trip counts as a positive on the week. This involved a string of early mornings, as I adjusted my body clock for the very early morning drive. I suffered in the evenings, but it was worth it for the road trip.

Less successful, however, was the advert banner. I seem to lack the right software, which made the process of creating an ornate banner a problem. I think I need to search for a tutorial, or two, to complete the banner. Likewise, the agent submission stalled as this month’s chosen agents want a copy of my CV. This does not bode well, as I do not have an impressive job record. Yet, this investment in updating my CV may pay dividends later. The task will roll along to this week.

As we were away on the road trip, there was no roleplay on Saturday. This is always a shame, but I am allowed to take a holiday. I had hoped to use my free time for long-term game prep, but ended up investing time in preparing for the road trip. Maybe next week.

Moving forward, this week is much the same as last week. The early part of the week will suffer from the tiredness and postponed chores from the holiday weekend. The end of the week features Gerrard’s birthday party, and there are the usual household chores in the middle. Half-term is looming, so maybe I will reward myself with a full writing day next week. Meanwhile, the schedule for this week looks as follows:

  • 2 hours – Primary Goal – Webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Advert banner for DriveThruRPG
  • Bonus – Tertiary Goal – Dice Photos
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Write FebShoMo first draft
  • 1.5 hours – Agent submission

Even though the list of tasks remains the same, I am making progress with the current fiction story and the layout of the pdf. It may yet launch at the start of June.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
