Writing Goals, 25th June, 2017

Hi Everyone,

An early start to the day means I am running close to my schedule. We had a “little boy” alarm today, and they have a very poor time setting. If the sun is awake, then they are ready to start the day. I wish the boys had a snooze option. However, this does help me post this promptly.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – Launch webcomic compilation pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – July Warlock’s Journal prep
  • 1 hour – Tertiary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Website
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1.5 hours – Editing – Long FebShoMo story

As I noted last week, this schedule was full of smaller tasks. The planning for the July Warlock’s Journal is running smoothly. I am now at the stage of writing the launch post, which forms the long blog post for this week. Likewise, I launched and promoted my Tales of the Dice, Volume I pdf. This is my compilation of the first year of the webcomic.

Elsewhere, I am deep in editing. Both the planar pdf and the FebShoMo story are printed out and gradually being annotated. In the case of the planar pdf, this is also a re-familiarization process, as it has been in production for years. I hope this round of focus will carry it through to completion. It is always important to finish what you start.

Yesterday was our first roleplaying session for many weeks. It was a welcome relief to return home to HeroQuest, after the extended Dungeon World interlude. The game flowed smoothly, and there was plenty of laughter at the table. I also squeezed in a couple of boardgames over the weekend, so I feel like a gamer again.

Looking ahead to this week, there are many school events to attend. We are nearing the end of the school year, which always increases the tempo of events. However, I am also aware of the looming summer holiday, and the extended reduction in my writing time. Thus, I want to push forward with the creative writing as much as I can. You can see this shift of focus in my schedule:

  • 1.5 hour – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 0.5 hours – Secondary Goal – Dice photo accessories
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Website
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Short FebShoMo story
  • 2.5 hours – Editing – Long FebShoMo story

So, a strong focus on working through those FebShoMo outlines I created en masse back in February. If I can write another first draft this week, then I will be very pleased.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
