- A welcome return to HeroQuest
- Player-generated story
- Bonus prep
It was wonderful to return to roleplaying on Saturday, after such a long break. This was a return to HeroQuest, now the Dungeon World interlude is complete. It has been even longer since we last played HeroQuest. The session felt familiar, and everyone settled back into their usual roles very quickly. There was a lot of laughter. I honestly think we have even more fun at the table when we play HeroQuest.
As expected, the early part of the session focused upon administrative issues. This only left half our usual time for roleplaying, which I deliberately started with a low-key instigating incident. The story built from there, including great roleplaying from the Players. More serious plot elements were woven into the session, but I think the Players were more focused upon the drug intervention they forced upon one of their number. I love it when the Players create story events.
Sadly, it is Gerrard’s turn to have a birthday party to attend next Saturday. Once again roleplaying has been cancelled. This gives me a slightly easier prep burden for tomorrow. Along with the actual play report and standard admin from the last session, I also need to prepare the session outline for next time. The outline is best completed next week, when I will remember the contents better when it comes to run the session. Thus, I have bonus time this week for broader plot preparation, and perhaps the chance to write up a troll myth or two.
My time is always tight, so this should be enough to keep me busy.
The Prep in Progress series are short summaries of my prep for the ongoing Tales of the Hero Wars campaign.
