Writing Goals, 9th July, 2017

Hi Everyone,

When I began this post, I was closer to my schedule. Then the chores began, and I became distracted. Sadly, no chance of family gaming this afternoon. Maybe I can find time for another solo game of Tiny Epic Galaxies tomorrow night.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Promote S&S: Doomsday Devices contest
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Website
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – Fiction – Short FebShoMo story
  • 1.5 hours – Editing – Long FebShoMo story

Overall, a good week, despite a busy time at school. The planar pdf will take months to complete, but I am pleased to keep it ticking along, and fresh in my mind. The Storm & Shield contest has netted two entries already. I will continue to promote the Doomsday Devices through the early part of this week:

5 Days for Storm & Shield: Doomsday Devices

Likewise, the fiction progressed well. I completed another picture book first draft, and the 7k chapter book is a whole lot closer to the target 5k now. I only have two more chapters to re-edit, and the updated second draft should finish a mere 300 words over budget. This is such an improvement over being 2,300 words above target. I remain hopeful of fixing this in the next round of edits.

Elsewhere, I worked hard on the blog and adapted the indie RPG 14 Days to work as a sub-game for the off-camera Hero coping with rehabilitation. If this project works well, then I may adapt 14 Days for similar tasks.

Looking ahead, the pace of school events has declined. I was tempted to devote a week to fiction writing, but this would not be wise. I have plenty of household chores, and I need to prepare for the long summer break. The Doomsday Devices pdf is also on a tight schedule, so it is best to be sensible. My limited plans for next week look like this:

  • 1.5 hours – Primary Goal – S&S: Doomsday Devices pdf
  • 30 mins – Secondary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Website
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Fiction – Apply to Literary Agent
  • 1.5 hours – Editing – Long FebShoMo story

I should easily conclude the edits on the long story, so plan to move on to a different first draft. If I can combine these tasks with plenty of chores, and good progress on the new pdf, then I will be very pleased.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
