August means the #RPGaDay program is live. The RPG-a-day project is hosted again at Brigade Con blog, were you can find the full list of questions.
How do you find out about new RPGs?
Back in the early years of my gaming hobby, there were magazines to rely upon for RPG news. Imagine and White Dwarf were read cover-to-cover, and adverts were a strong source for new RPGs. Thirty years later, and the gaming world has changed.
My primary method for buying new RPGs is via Kickstarter. Messages from previous creators lead me to their new games. My Twitter friends are also a source of RPG news in general. However, over the course of 2017 a clear leader in new RPG information has emerged: Misdirected Mark Podcast.
I love listening to podcasts as I work through my assorted chores. A new favourite is the Misdirected Mark Podcast, hosted by Chris Sniezak, Phil Vecchione and Bob Everson. I really must post a proper review of MMP. Suffice it to say, their gaming advice mirrors the style of game I want to run. Thus, their Kickstarter suggestions match what I want from a game. On the back of their show, I recently backed:
- The Happiest Apocalypse on Earth
- Damn the Man, Save the Music
- The Sword, The Crown, and The Unspeakable Power
- Bluebeard’s Bride
I expect to throw more money on their recommendations.
