Writing Goals, 6th August, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Another week of the long summer holiday is finished!

Once again, the week was not so bad. I am settling into the routine of the summer, although finding enough quiet time for writing remains difficult. The Summer Gaming Challenge helps me to cope, and is a wonderful excuse to play boardgames with the boys.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 90 mins – Primary Goal – Launch S&S: Doomsday Devices pdf
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • Bonus – Writing Program

The launch of Storm & Shield: Doomsday Devices ran smoothly. I am through the initial surge of sales, which is always an encouraging boost. The pdf was released in July, meaning I succeeded in running the entire Warlock’s Journal contest inside a month. Given how busy I am in August, it was very helpful to have this project out of the way.

August is proving to be a full month on the blog. My backlog of posts is building, which adds to the pressure. I kept to my schedule last week, mostly, and kept the planar pdf moving forward. This is as much as I can hope for through the summer.

Gaming yesterday was not the PhilCon event I had planned. This project collapsed for a number of reasons, including short notice for the event. Thus, I postponed PhilCon for a year. I now have a lot more time to prepare, meaning I can produce graphics, run a better raffle and maybe organise an awards ceremony. So many plans.

First things first, I need to map out this week. I reduce my goals a little further, as the blog needs so much attention through August. This allows me to limit my target on those days with both boys. The lighter schedule looks like this:

  • 30 mins – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Literary Agent submission
  • Bonus – Writing Program

I am sad to see my hours cut back further, but I need to limit my stress as much as I can. I have the boys here for that.

See how I preformed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
