Writing Goals, 13th August, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Yet another week of the long summer holiday is finished! This means I am roughly at the halfway point.

Once again, the week was not too bad. Quiet writing time is rare, but Friday morning ended up with just me and the cats at home. It felt odd. The Summer Gaming Challenge remains strong, with a surprising number of games on the list.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 30 mins – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Literary Agent submission
  • Bonus – Writing Program

This reduced schedule worked a little better for me, although the pressure to keep up with the blogging is high in August. The RPG-a-Day project is fun, but adding one extra post every day ramps up the pressure. I submitted to the Literary Agent, which could be the last one of the year. A lack of progress suggests it is time to vary my approach. I also need a different selection of stories to submit, but this is a project for the autumn.

The planar pdf continues to grow. The expanded third draft is also having a new order of material, which should create a more interesting pdf. A long way to go before release, but I can see I am making progress even at the slow holiday work-rate.

As noted above, gaming remains strong. The roleplaying on Saturday was a Dungeon World one-shot, which proved interesting with a fresh mix of Players. I really enjoy the effect of our rolling cast of Players. I am even exploring older board games as part of the Summer Gaming Challenge.

Looking ahead, it is more of the same. The deadline of the builders looms closer, and our thoughts are turning to school prep too. Autumn will be very busy this year, and I need to keep working through the chores to ensure I am ready. The limited schedule looks like this:

  • 90 mins – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction

A shorter list this week, with a narrow focus. Blogging takes up yet more time, but I need to work hard on the childcare and chores.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
