Forgotten Scrolls 48: Week 211

The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.

This article has been given a fresh edit, a little more polish, and reprinted as a guest post on the Ennead blog. This weekend, the article was a brief look at a few films I recommend for GMs, especially those interested in narrative structure:

Last Week: Week 210

Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article to the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article presented the methods for expanding the areas in the game suitable for Player brainstorming. This all developed from an interlude using My Life with Master:

Updated: More Player Brainstorming

Last Month: Week 207

Four weeks ago, I launched my Summer Gaming Challenge, which is proving very helpful at carrying me through the long summer holiday. In that week I also posted an essay continuing the interlude theme. This was my contribution to the July Blog Carnival, where I discussed my tendency for dark-themed interludes.

Six Months Ago: Week 185

Further back, in February, I reviewed my progress in January. The long blog post for week 185 was a third essay exploring interludes. This time it was Fiasco interludes under discussion. The doomed narrative of Fiasco produces compelling stories:

Last Year: Week 159

Stepping back to August 2016, the RPG-a-Day project was filling up the daily content. My long article for week 159 combined another Blog Carnival with yet another essay about an interlude. For this month I focused on The Day After Ragnarok setting.

Two Years Ago: Week 107

Winding back another year to 2015, I wrote about my reaching the end of the Dice of Doom podcasts. My long blog post for week 107 reviewed the performance of the blog through its second year:

In Review: A Second Year Report

Three Years Ago: Week 55

Back in August 2014, I reviewed the Theoi website, which still makes it onto my list of 40 top sites for storytelling GMs. The long blog post for week 55 explored once again those catacombs beneath a villa, described in a previous essay. This time, I explained how to quickly add content to otherwise empty rooms in a basic Five Room Dungeon:

Four Years Ago: Week 3

Finally, in August 2013 I had only just launched Tales of a GM. In this week I reviewed my trusty All Rolled Up, which remains in use. As luck would have it, my long blog post for Week 3 introduced the concept of interludes, which you can see remains a prominent feature of the Tales of the Hero Wars:

Campaign Interludes

Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?

Happy Reading

Phil
