Forgotten Scrolls 49: Week 212

The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.

This article has been given a fresh edit, a little more polish, and reprinted as a guest post on the Ennead blog. This weekend, the article presented the seven principles of storytelling outlined by Jason Pitre in the Spark RPG:

Story Sparks: Seven Principles of Storytelling

Last Week: Week 211

Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article to the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article was a fun essay exploring which six famous people I would like to game with:

Updated: Dream HeroQuest of Unknown Kadath

Last Month: Week 208

Four weeks ago, I joined the RPG-a-Day project, answering a daily question on the blog. In that week I also posted an essay continuing my February Blog Carnival series. I had reached part 12, where I discussed how to close an encounter:

February ‘17 Carnival: Improv Encounters 12, Closing

Six Months Ago: Week 186

Further back, in February, I neared the end of my FebShoMo project. The long blog post for week 186 was my first contribution to what became a long series based on the February Blog Carnival. In a strange juxtaposition, this essay looked at encounter openings:

February ‘17 Carnival: Improv Encounters 1, Openings

Last Year: Week 160

Stepping back to August 2016, the RPG-a-Day project was winding down. My long article for week 160 was another long-running series. I continued my discussion of improv gaming by focusing on graded narrative outcomes:

Improv Gaming, Part 7: Building Narrative Options

Two Years Ago: Week 108

Winding back another year to 2015, I outlined my plans for September. My long blog post for week 108 was another essay building upon the great advice in the Spark RPG. Using Jason Pitre’s advice as a starting point, I built a short series of tables for bringing GMCs to life:

Body Sparks: GMC Body Language

Three Years Ago: Week 56

Back in 2014, the month rolled over into September, where I promoted the new home for the wandering Warlock’s Journal contest. The long blog post for week 56 was another look at narrative outcomes in an RPG, this time building upon the framework presented in the Little Wizards RPG:

Yes/No, but Little Wizards

Four Years Ago: Week 4

Finally, in August 2013 I had only just launched Tales of a GM. In this week I promoted a contest for gamers. My long blog post for Week 4 explored GM intrusions, as created by Monte Cook in his Numenera RPG:

We all Need Intrusions

Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?

Happy Reading
