Songs of Ulubrae: Chapter 27

Around the Fire at the Club

Noon, Godsday, Magic Week, Delve Season, 1017.

The Heroes united in Sartokna’s room, where she read a letter written by the Ambassador. This letter recounted a prophetic dream experienced by the Ambassador. Umiaq showed Sartokna the translated scrolls, and everyone discussed the new information they had found.

Sartokna decided to pursue the long-forgotten matter of the triptych stolen from the Shrine to Kyger Litor. This necessitated a visit to the uncomfortably familiar Ningak the Fat. Ningak was delighted to see Sartokna but frustratingly vague about the details of his meeting with a gnome thief from Pavis. Ningak remembered a gaudy gnome with a beard but lacked details. He persuaded Sartokna to have dinner with him, where he promised to have more information for her.

Ningak then summoned H09 to build a replica of Sartokna’s chair for his office. Arrluk distracted H09 from this task by breaking an Embassy window. This allowed a swarm of cave bats to enter the building. Repairs to the window delayed H09, giving Arrluk time to hide Sartokna’s chair and thwart Ningak’s plan.

Mangok tried to catch a fluttering bat, but the creature proved too agile for the trollkin. His repeated attempts to snare the bat soon drew the Embassy trollkin into the game. Very quickly, the corridors were filled with excited trollkin playing a frantic game of mangokee. Umiaq sent the trollkin outside, where they learned that street mangokee was far less fun.

Meanwhile, H09 made a clockwork fan for Ningak, featuring disturbing elongated faces on the blades. Arrluk helped Umiaq send a bat courier with a message to Tarsiqia, asking her to call a meeting of the Dwarven Ladies Tea Circle. Further plans were interrupted by the arrival of a minotaur Rune Hero asking for Sartokna. Hurloon, the minotaur, was a lightning sledge pilot. He had something to show Sartokna, who took Arrluk with her. Hurloon flew the pair out of Ulubrae, down to a strange stone circle in a fungus field by the river.

The large circle resembled a plinth large enough to carry a small tower. The warm stone was dark red and matched the strange plugs encountered when the Heroes ventured out into the Underdark. Arrluk felt a deep connection to the red plinth. Hurloon explained he was sent to Ulubrae to help Sartokna fulfil her destiny, but offered few clues about what this entailed.
