I keep these goals in focus by writing monthly updates about my progress. The original post outlined four categories of resolution:
- Blogging Resolutions
- Freelance & Publishing Resolutions
- Fiction Resolutions
- Gaming Resolutions
The long summer holiday is close to ending. I look forward to having more time to myself.
August’s traffic figures were okay, but another step down from the last few months. As part of the RPG-a-Day project, I increased my rate of posting through August. This lead to a record number of posts for the month. Even though the traffic was not matched to the rate of posting, I want to reward myself for all the hard work through the month. Blogging score 5/5.
Freelance & Publishing Resolutions
August is a difficult month for my writing, as it is the long summer holiday for the boys. Thus, my time is focused on childcare, at the cost of my writing. I cobbled together enough time to make a little progress on my next long pdf. This bonus writing was enough to keep the project alive, helping me pick it back up in September. This limited progress means a low score. Freelance score 2/5.
Likewise, my fiction writing also suffered in August. I kept up with my reading, but little else. Fiction score 1/5.
Of course, one thing I can do with the boys is play games. This year I began my Summer Gaming Challenge. The initial target was one game per day, which increased to two per day and then 100 games over the whole summer. I should reach this third target later today. Furthermore, I bought two new card games and an expansion to Ticket to Ride: Europe. Roleplaying was good through the month, but it was the board gaming which shone in August. Gaming score 5/5.
The total for the month is a respectable 13/20. This score is much lower than past months, but the summer holiday makes August such a difficult month for my writing. To achieve full points for two categories feels like a major achievement. The rest of 2017 will be disturbed by the building work but should see additional become time available for writing. I will not be a full-speed, but there will be further progress through the rest of the year.
