Writing Goals, 10th September, 2017

Hi Everyone,

I am settling back into the school routine, which generally affords me more writing time. However, with the looming building work, this year I am simply swapping one set of chores for another. The end of last week was as much about giving me a rest, as it was devoted to packing away the rest of the house. The writing was balanced in the middle.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 2 ½ hours – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – Fiction Planning

Last week saw a relatively large step forward with the planar pdf. The bulk of the third draft has been edited. I now have the long list of encounters to complete, and then I should be ready to print everything out for a last major editing pass. The text is greatly improved, with additional articles better integrated. For a project begun years ago, it is making solid progress.

I also moved forward with the fiction writing, outlining a plan for the autumn. I ordered the latest copy of the Children’s Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook, which I now need to read. Finally, I picked which FebShoMo outline I will write as a second longer book to submit to Literary Agents in 2018. I hope this change of plan will enjoy better luck moving my writing career forward. The completion of this new story now becomes my primary goal for the rest of the month.

Elsewhere, roleplaying had to be cancelled yesterday due to childcare issues. Nor did the boys want to game with me yesterday, it has been a game-free end to the week. We have a family party today, so this may not be about to change soon.

Looking ahead to this week, my focus shifts to the creative writing. The start date for the building work creeps ever closer, so the final packing is required. A selection of school events will also keep me busy. I hope to carry this increased pace of activity through to my writing to make the most of the time available. My limited schedule looks like this:

  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 Mins – Fiction Planning
  • Bonus – Planar pdf

It will be wonderful to write fiction again, and the first draft is unfettered by word count. I just hope inspiration will strike to carry the story forward.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
