Writing Goals, 17th September, 2017

Hi Everyone,

This is the last weekend before the builders start work. We are almost finished clearing out the bottom floor of the house and emptying the garage. One last push, and we will be ready for weeks of disruption. I look forward to settling into the new working routine, where there is plenty of noise and dust, but not much for me to do.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 mins – Fiction Planning
  • Bonus – Planar pdf

My main goal for last week was to start writing the first draft of my new chapter book. A lot of the week was taken up with outlining, adding a rough plot to an existing setting for the story. By the end of the week, I began the first chapter. I hope the extra time invested in the outline will help the story flow over the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, I juggled the competing demands of blogging, packing and game prep. My priority today shifts to the packing, so I hope this will prove stress free. I will only know whether my efforts earlier in the week were enough when things run smoothly today. If we can avoid a panicked rush to finish, then my previous work was sufficient.

As the early part of this week is devoted to the building work, the blog and writing will suffer. Towards the end of the week, I then need to catch back up with the writing. I hope the reduction of chores will free up more space for the writing. Noise-cancelling music and alternate workspaces are lined up to help me cope with the builders.

Thus, this week is the first of a new routine. I remain hopeful I will write during the building phase, but the test will be once the heavy work begins. My optimistic schedule looks like this:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • Bonus – October Blog plan
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 1 hour – General Fiction
  • 2 hours – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 mins – Fiction Planning

This is only a small uptick from last week, in the expectation of more dedicated writing time at the end of the week. The fiction may prove a struggle, but blogging and the planar pdf should be possible without quiet focus. This week really is a voyage into the unknown.

See how I performed here

Wishing you a productive week

Phil
