Changed in His Turn
Noon, Marketday, Secret Week, Delve Season, 1017.
For a moment, the Heroes just stared at Arrluk, slightly shocked at the intensity of his violent response to the thugs. Umiaq’s cloak crooned approval. Arrluk’s practical nature reasserted itself and he asked Chunky to take care of the remaining corpse. The zombie hobbit shuffled over to the body, dragged it behind the bar and set to work with his cleaver.
Meanwhile, Adlartok grew impatient waiting in the Embassy. The troll returned to the gnome architect and demanded he measured the height of the Red Tower once again. Despite the strong protestations of the gnome, Adlartok insisted. Only when the troll challenged the architect to a wager would the gnome consent to return to the Red Tower. As expected, the results of the latest reading showed no measurable change in the height of the tower.
Sartokna hurried back to the Embassy with the remainder of the Heroes. She was furious with Arrluk and immediately summoned him to her office. After much shouting, Arrluk was suspended from his post. Mangok could not keep this juicy gossip to himself, and immediately related an inflated version of events to Umiaq.
Umiaq hastily visited Sartokna to apply for Arrluk’s “vacant” post. Disappointed, he returned to his chambers to prepare for the meeting of the Dwarven Ladies Tea Circle this afternoon. The Embassy trollkin continued to share gossip about Arrluk, inflating the story every time.
When Adlartok returned to the Embassy, his trollkin were eager to kill Arrluk in accordance with the latest version of the rumour. Adlartok interrupted his sister’s dressing to confirm he was permitted to kill Arrluk. Sartokna dismissed her half-brother with a few curt words.
Finally, H09 decided to resolve the situation both legally and logically. Xe visited Ningak the Fat to obtain the Writ of Execution for Arrluk. Ningak was reluctant at first but agreed to complete the Writ as a personal favour to his dear Sartokna. Once issued with the only permissible document for the killing of Arrluk, H09 took it to Sartokna for safe keeping. She was left puzzling where to keep this dangerous document.
Smartly dressed, the Heroes walked across Upper Ulubrae to the residence of Tarsiqia Ternetus Aureus, the hostess of the current meeting of the Dwarven Ladies Tea Circle. Here they learnt a wide range of political gossip.
The Songs of Ulubrae are the session summaries from the Shadows of Ulubrae story arc in my Tales of the Hero Wars campaign.
