Writing Goals, 15th October, 2017

Hi Everyone,

The builders are now four weeks into the project and at least one room is coming together. Last week also brought heightened stress for me as school was closed on Wednesday. I am really missing my quiet time and the writing is showing the strain.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – December Blog plan
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 2 hours – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 mins – Fiction Planning

A sudden burst of productivity on the December blog plan worked wonders. I started over again on the graphic element, which I had time to do by working so far in advance. I must remember this lesson. The project is not ready to roll just yet, but I have made enough progress for it to slide back down my priority list for a few weeks.

Likewise, the planar pdf moved forward too. I am only making small steps, but my current situation suits the limited focus required for this style of writing. The fiction writing, however, is a different matter. I failed to achieve the right mindset to write fiction, so this area of the schedule was a complete failure.

Yesterday was another Saturday without gaming. I stayed home to look after the boys. Further stress was added by the builders working an extra morning. I am sure this helps their timetable, but not so much my ability to relax. Despite the lack of roleplaying, I found time to print out assorted papers as part of my prep for the forthcoming Halloween special game. Thus, Saturday was not a total loss.

Looking ahead, this week is more of the same. The boys break up for half-term on Thursday, giving me a busy end to the week. Monday is shaping up to be full of chores, including an extended trip out to Parents’ Evening. My schedule is trimmed back a little further. However, I have retained the fiction writing for this week in the faint hope of achieving better focus:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
  • Bonus – Warlock’s Journal entry
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 2 hours – General Fiction
  • 1 hour – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 mins – Fiction Planning

As the building work rumbles along, stress and tiredness accumulate. I hope I can complete a decent amount of writing this week, as well as prepare for the brainstorming session on Saturday.

Wishing you a productive week
