Forgotten Scrolls 56: Week 219

The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.

This article has been given a fresh edit, a little more polish, and reprinted as a guest post on the Ennead blog. This weekend, the article explored my experiences playing HeroQuest Glorantha on the mighty RPG Geek forum:

Text Quest: Play-by-Forum at RPG Geek

Last Week: Week 218

Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article to the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article continued from the previous week. The new essay reviewed my process converting last week’s brainstorming notes into a playable catacomb complex:

Updated: Building the Villa Catacombs

Last Month: Week 215

Four weeks ago, I reviewed the Seven Wonders story RPG compilation. In that week I expanded upon the Heroes of the Falling Star RPG mechanics which encourage the young Players to act Heroic. I presented a simple set of rules to emulate this process in another RPG:

Social Engineering, Part 2: Mechanics

Six Months Ago: Week 193

Further back, in April, I reviewed the novel The Misfortunates. The long blog post for week 193 was yet another sequel. This time the essay was one more in my Improv Encounters series, focused on the “what” of a scene:

February ‘17 Carnival: Improv Encounters 6, What is Happening

Last Year: Week 167

Stepping back to October 2016, where I posted another early Forgotten Scroll essay. My long article for week 167 was a prequel for my forthcoming Heroic Nicknames book. In this essay I sampled the introduction from the book:

Two Years Ago: Week 115

Winding back another year to October 2015, my Galactic Gadgets contest had reached the voting stage. My long article for week 115 was the monthly contribution to the RPG Blog Carnival. Inevitably, this round of the carnival had a Halloween theme. I wrote about a threat to the good people of Summerland:

RPG Blog Carnival: Midnight Hag

Three Years Ago: Week 63

Back in October 2014, the Inner Council round of the Warlock’s Journal was at the voting stage. My long blog post for week 63 was another in a long series about Trollbabe, the superb RPG by Ron Edwards. This essay took the Trollbabe concept of scale and provided examples for the first five power levels:

Trollbabe and Scale: Examples of Heroic Power, Part 1

Four Years Ago: Week 11

Finally, this trawl through the archives reaches 2013, where I promoted the Kickstarter for Unwritten. The feature article for week 11 considered a better name for characters portrayed by the GM. This essay had since been updated:

Updated: What is in a Name, Part 2; GMCs

Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?

Happy Reading

Phil
