The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.
At least, I would on a normal week. As last week was half-term, I agreed with Chris to skip my regular post at Ennead Games. Instead, Chris wrote a short piece about his favourite five articles from my first year of posting articles on his site. Do you agree with his choices?
Last Week: Week 220
Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article to the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article explored an invasive species from an earlier story arc of my Tales of the Hero Wars campaign. One Player allowed a hideous leech to overpower his Hero through the course of the story arc:
Last Month: Week 217
Four weeks ago, I reviewed my limited writing performance in September. In that week my long article returned to the theme of imagining six Players to game with. For this essay I chose a selection of historical figures:
Six Months Ago: Week 195
Further back, in May, I was only a month away from Games Expo. The long blog post for week 195 was my annual list of useful websites for a narrative GM:
Last Year: Week 169
Stepping back to October 2016, where I launched another recruitment drive for my newsletter, Whispers of a GM. My long article for week 169 was another in my long-running improv gaming series. This essay brought together the previous ideas and focused on running a game as an improv GM.
Two Years Ago: Week 117
I launched the pdf from the Galactic Gadgets contest. My long article for week 117 was a lengthy exploration of elementals in RPGs and ways of finding additional design space in this area.
Three Years Ago: Week 65
Back in October 2014, I backed the Puppetland kickstarter. This is the same game I ran as the Halloween special last year. My long blog post for week 65 was a discussion of different ways to provide information to the Players. This essay has since been Updated:
Four Years Ago: Week 13
Finally, this trawl through the archives reaches 2013, where I backed the Kickstarter for Odyssey. The feature article for week 13 promoted the launch of my first Storm & Shield contest.
Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?
