- First The Happiest Apocalypse on Earth session
- Rules issues
- Successful GMCs
The game of The Happiest Apocalypse on Earth last Saturday was a lot of fun. Planet Albion proved as weird and sinister as I had hoped. The Players leaned into the strangeness and even interfered with the achievements of other Heroes. I ran an adaptation of one of the plots in the back of the book, and I think it worked well.
Much to my surprise, the Players even seemed to like my over-the-top GMCs. I threw in voice impressions too and it all seemed to work. I often worry about my portrayal of GMCs, but they worked out fine this time.
Sadly, my execution of the rules was not so great. This is always a risk with a new set of rules. I spotted the error towards the end of the session, so corrected for the last few scenes. Overall, it was a good enough first attempt that the Players are happy to revisit Planet Albion for our next session. I hope to build upon what I learnt in the first game and tell an even better story.
Real life is now interfering in my gaming plans. We cannot play on Saturday as I must be home to look after the boys. Likewise, the ongoing building work is affecting my focus. It is all I can do to keep the blog running. Thus, I am yet to find time for any game prep this week. Friday is always full of deadlines, so my only hope is Saturday. If the boys are well-behaved, then I have a chance to prepare for another game of The Happiest Apocalypse on Earth.
The Prep in Progress series comprises short summaries of my prep for the ongoing Tales of the Hero Wars campaign.
