Writing Goals, 5th November, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow marks the fiftieth day of the building project. We have been promised the heating back on Thursday. We are all looking forward to living in a warmer house.

Previously on Tales of a GM:

4 hours – Primary Goal – Planar pdf
1 hour – Secondary Goal – December Blog project
1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
2 hours – Write, edit & post a long blog article
30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
2 hours – General Fiction
Bonus – First Draft Chapter Book
30 mins – Fiction Planning

This week my schedule finally fell apart. Living alongside the builders is far more stressful and much less efficient. Gone are the days when the kitchen is simply downstairs, or the washing machine is in the same house as the laundry basket. Add in the cold and the noise levels, and it becomes so much harder to focus on the writing.

In the early part of the week, I found time for the planar pdf. Inevitably, I found several glaring omissions in the book. These must be written for the next draft. I am also writing scenario hooks arising from the information in the book as I edit, which slows the process further. The new ordering of the sections is better, but there will be another editing pass on several sections of the text. The book will be improved by the process, but length and workload continue to build.

Elsewhere, my progress was more limited. The blogging schedule had numerous delays and fiction writing has been abandoned. Nor did I find time for any game prep last week. By Thursday, I concluded I need an even lighter schedule and I must set aside more time for personal care.

Moving forward, my revised schedule is lighter again. The December blog project bumps up the list once more, as I really do not want to rush that at the end of the month. Likewise, the planar pdf is slimmed down to a single hour, which should be enough to keep the project ticking over. Once January rolls around, I can focus again on completing this long project. My reduced schedule looks like this:

  • 1 hour – Primary Goal – December Blog project
  • 1 hour – Secondary Goal – Planar pdf
  • 1 hour – Social Media – Visit different Forums and write five posts or comments
  • 2 hours – Write, edit & post a long blog article
  • 30 mins – Weekly Task – Plan
  • 2 hours – General Fiction
  • Bonus – First Draft Chapter Book
  • 30 mins – Fiction Planning

I hope the latest plan will give me enough time for the blog, chores and game prep. If I can manage all of that, then I should feel a lot less stressed.

Wishing you a productive week
