Songs of Ulubrae: Chapter 31

With Vivid Faces

Mid-afternoon, Marketday, Secret Week, Delve Season, 1017.

The Heroes spent the afternoon chatting amiably to a meeting of the Dwarven Ladies Tea Circle hosted by Tarsiqia Ternetus Aureus. Alongside a wide range of political gossip, they also discussed a few matters of interest to the Troll Embassy.

Much to everyone’s surprise, H09 lurched into an improvised story about one of Arrluk’s adventures which featured the missing figurine of Kyger Litor. Xe invoked xes destiny to have Lucretia Proculus snort derisively over the fate of the artefact, thereby confirming the Heroes’ belief that the Proculus family retain this precious figurine.

Umiaq later pursued this matter with Favonia Proculus, Lucretia’s daughter. Umiaq sought to leverage threats of revealing Favonia’s blue dust habit to her father, Flavius. Favonia did not want her secret revealed and provided limited information about the location of the figurine. She believes it to be in her father’s study, secured in a mechanical chest which resembles the torso of H09.

Favonia also commented upon Umiaq’s forehead rune. She recognised this as a mark of the Red Moon and suggested Umiaq should meet with Jalakeel, also known as the spindle hag. This name solved another minor puzzle for the Heroes, along with the confirmation that Sedenya was the name of the Red Moon Goddess. Favonia promised to arrange a meeting with Jalakeel for Umiaq.

On the subject of religion, the ladies were very excited about the Festival of Sol Invictus in a few weeks. The dwarves believed the trolls were representing the Army of Night for this year’s important festival. The presence of genuine trolls in the ceremony would greatly strengthen the power of the ritual and thereby increase the might of Sol Invictus.

The final significant conversation of the afternoon was between Sartokna and Clusivia Drusus, the wife of Pinarius, Minister of the Stone Legion. Clusivia was under the impression that troll fur changed colour rapidly in sunlight or the rays of Sol Invictus. After initially playing along, Sartokna revealed this change was not natural. The Heroes concluded that her husband was being tricked into believing one or more trolls was the same person. Sartokna resolved to question the Ambassador about this topic.
