Forgotten Scrolls 62: Week 225

The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during my four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.

This article has been given a fresh edit, a little more polish, and reprinted as a guest post on the Ennead blog. This weekend, the article explored another great idea proposed by Jason Pitre in Spark RPG. Jason suggests the character sheet is a love letter from the Player to the GM:

Love Sparks, Part 1: Dear GM . . .

Last Week: Week 224

Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article on the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article presented a simple table to use as a springboard for a small dungeon complex. Simply roll on the table whenever the Players enter a room and improvise from there:

Updated: Random Narrative Dungeons

Last Month: Week 221

Four weeks ago, I reviewed my progress in October. In that week my long article argued that the process of creating characters is part of playing the game. This should be performed as a group at a normal gaming session. In this way, the Players build Heroes with better connections:

Character Generation is Play

Six Months Ago: Week 199

Further back, in May, I was only a single week away from Games Expo. The long blog post for week 199 was my contribution to the May Blog Carnival. I discussed one area of my campaign I want to improve:

May ‘17 Carnival: Cult Magic Failures

Last Year: Week 173

Stepping back to November 2016, I was very excited for the imminent trip to Dragonmeet. My long article for week 173 was another Blog Carnival entry. This month I wrote about how I balance my hobby with the various real-life demands on my time:

November ‘16 Carnival: Mixing Gaming with Life

Two Years Ago: Week 121

Winding back another year to November 2015, I reviewed my progress over the month. My long article for week 121 was the first essay exploring The One Ring RPG. This essay looked at the way the rules help create the fellowship of Heroes. I have since posted an updated version of this article:

The One Ring, Part 1: Fellowship Formation

Three Years Ago: Week 69

Back in November 2014, I was counting down to another Dragonmeet. My long blog post for week 69 was my sixth look at Ron Edward’s Trollbabe. This essay emphasizes how important it is to understand and articulate what a Player hopes to achieve through their Hero’s actions:

Trollbabe and Goals: The Importance of Intent

Four Years Ago: Week 17

Finally, this trawl through the archives reaches 2013, where I highlighted the expired Dice of Doom podcast. The feature article for week 17 was the conclusion of my first hosting of the roving Warlock’s Journal contest. I announced the two winners of the Storm & Shield: Prime and Nemesis competition and presented my thoughts about hosting:

Warlock’s Journal Results

Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?
