12 Days of Dicember: Q3

Here at Tales of a GM, I am running the 12 Days of Dicember project, a way for us to share our love of dice. Each day this month, until the twelfth, there is a new question to spark a conversation about the dice we love.

Day 3

What is your favourite dice game?

This question is an easy one for me to answer, but likely to change over time. Indeed, I may have bought a contender for next year’s answer at Dragonmeet. Also, we hope to play a lot more board games in our new dining room through 2018. Thus, the answer to question three is very much of the moment.

For now, however, my favourite dice game is Tiny Epic Galaxies. Custom dice are a feature of modern gaming. I guess you could use a chart instead, but the custom icons help speed the gameplay. The dice rolling mechanism simplifies the game enough to allow the boys to play.

Beyond the cool dice, Tiny Epic Galaxies lives up to its name as it packs a lot of game into a small box. Players can choose to act in anyone’s turn, at a cost, which helps engagement. Many of our games are close and the solo option allows me to find my gaming fix when everyone else is busy. We have just started playing with the Beyond the Black expansion, so there is plenty more life in Tiny Epic Galaxies.

How about you?

Happy Rolling

Sounds like a cool game; I’ll have to check it out. When it comes to science fiction-themed dice games, I’ve also be looking at Roll for the Galaxy (, the dice version of the Race for the Galaxy Card game

My entry for Day 3 is dedicated to Zombie Dice, which was a surprise hit with my family:

      Hi Ken,

Those games which prove a surprise hit with the family are such a joy.

      Thanks for sharing
