Forgotten Scrolls 63: Week 226

The Forgotten Scrolls series is a weekly look at articles previously published during my four years of blogging. Before the usual rummage through the dusty archives, I direct you to my regular guest post at Ennead Games. Here I reprint an old essay.

This article has been given a fresh edit, a little more polish, and reprinted as a guest post on the Ennead blog. This weekend, the article continued exploring another great idea proposed by Jason Pitre in Spark RPG. This week I looked at how the GM could respond to the character sheet love letter written by the Player:

Love Sparks, Part 2: GM Replies

Last Week: Week 225

Another weekly series of relevance is where I post an Updated article on the blog. This essay previously appeared at Ennead Games, but now returns home. Last week’s Updated article presented another idea of Jason Pitre. This time I focused on ways to use body language to bring GMCs to life:

Updated: GMC Body Language

Last Month: Week 222

Four weeks ago, my countdown was four weeks away from Dragonmeet. In that week my long article presented my GM tool for monitoring the major abilities of the Players, a big help when improvising:

Top Five Abilities Sheet

Six Months Ago: Week 200

Further back, in June, I was attending UK Games Expo. The long blog post for week 200 was my tenth contribution to the February Blog Carnival. In this essay I explored how to weave multiple contests into an encounter:

February ‘17 Carnival: Improv Encounters 10, Many Contests

Last Year: Week 174

Stepping back to December 2016, I announced the winner of the Versatile Vehicles contest. My long article for week 174 was another look at the presentation of exposition advocated in 7th Sea. This time I reviewed the possible sources of in-game knowledge:

Shanties & Sagas: 7th Sea Exposition Part 2

Two Years Ago: Week 122

Winding back another year to December 2015, I promoted the Kickstarter for the RuneQuest 2 reprint. My long article for week 122 was the second essay exploring The One Ring RPG. This essay looked at the Fellowship phase, which smooths the passage of time through the campaign. This essay has since been Updated:

The One Ring, Part 2: Fellowship Phase

Three Years Ago: Week 70

Back in December 2014, I reviewed Paizo’s Plot Twist cards. My long blog post for week 70 was my seventh look at Ron Edward’s Trollbabe. This essay brought together the concepts of goals and scale, noting how the impact of the Hero changes at different scales:

Goals and Scale in Trollbabe: Keeping things in Proportion

Four Years Ago: Week 18

Finally, this trawl through the archives reaches 2013, where I promoted another round of the roving Warlock’s Journal. The feature article for week 18 considered how Players learn a game, trying to apply the lessons from a book I read about teaching. This essay has since been Updated:

Player Learning

Once again, I hope you liked this extended journey through the archives of Tales of a GM. Did you find any lost treasures this week?

Happy Reading

Phil
