Here at Tales of a GM, I am running the 12 Days of Dicember project, a way for us to share our love of dice. Each day this month, until the twelfth, there is a new question to spark a conversation about the dice we love. We are now rolling towards the end of the project, but there is still time to participate.
Which are your hardest working dice?
Now I am answering these questions, I see this one is almost a repeat of Day 6. At least, my answer is much the same, so I apologise for the repetition.
My hardest working dice are the d20s, the iconic dice for Geeks everywhere. This is the die I buy in multiples from the gorgeous Chessex stand at Dragonmeet. The d20 is the only die required to play my beloved HeroQuest. My various house rules add a couple more dice to the mix, but the game is really all about the d20. My GM superstition noted yesterday ensures a steady rotation of the various d20s in my collection.
I only have one complaint about using the iconic d20 in HeroQuest. Under the rules, a 1 is a critical and a 20 is a fumble. This is the reverse of the f20 system. Thus, so many of the Geek t-shirts featuring either of these numbers feels wrong to me. It all works fine in the game, but I cannot find a suitable t-shirt featuring my hardest working die.
How about you?
